Sounds painful, right? The funny thing is, I don’t mind. I really love reading. More specifically, I’ve been reading submissions for my University’s literary magazine, First Circle. Somehow this semester I got elevated to a senior editor, which means i have to be more organized and not procrastinate. I am actually enjoying it a lot though. I have read a ridiculous amount of poems, short stories, and creative non-fiction in the past week, and I really enjoyed them all. I don’t know if i could be this kind of an editor for a job though. If I am able to give the writers feedback and a chance to fix up the work, then I could do it. But just reading through and saying yes, no, or maybe is hard. There are so many pieces that have potential, but I can’t say yes on potential alone. Oh well, I guess I have to learn how to be more mean. It is definitely a good learning experience. Next week should be fun, because that is when all the editors get together and make the first decision. I’ve never done that before, and I am really looking forward to it.
Did you know???
Speaking of editing, one of my friends, Hannah Selleck, has an editing business. For realsies. (If she saw how I just worded that, she would yell at me and say it was too informal, but guess what, Hannah? It’s my blog! ha, ha, ha) Anyway, if you need any kind of professional editing done, she is the person to do it. She’s quite thorough and helpful and doesn’t slip up in her professionalism at all(like me…). Check it out!
