Write Me Up

Official writing with some random thoughts

As promised…a few poems May 2, 2011

Filed under: General Blog-tastic Writings — Dorothy Lynn @ 12:52 am

These are a couple poems I wrote in specific forms that we came up with in class.

Sing

Today
I would like you
to tell me you love me.
No one sings me love songs like you.

Small birds
perched in the trees
whisper to the world that
perhaps today love will be new.

Jumping
the gap between
heartache and passing joy
should be easy for you to do.

So please
I would love you
to sing me a love song.
No one reaches me quite like you.

On the Street

She turns, swaying, slowly
waving her hands. Her
face is blank, but
her movements share every
emotion. The white paint
overwhelms her eyes, filled
with bright hope. No
one can hear her
voice, but each passerby
stops and watches gestures
carefully orchestrated to tell
a particular story. Nobody
will understand but she.

Esther and Ruth

She freezes. The hopes of a hundred years
crumble in her hands. The golden scepter
that determines her fate stands
upright at the end of the hall.

She works. Humbled to pick
the fallen bundles, she prays for enough
to feed her mournful mother. Radiant
love encompasses her in an overwhelming aura.

Their courage saves their people.
Their womanhood liberates the world.
