Last weekend, I went home to visit my family, friends, and let’s face it, my boyfriend. I came back on Tuesday to find that my roommate really needed some company, and we proceeded to sit on the couch for about three hours talking. This weekend, I find myself alone in our giant house, because she went to our university for homecoming to visit the girls from her sorority. While I am not nearly as social and extroverted as she is, I do find myself feeling at a loss for what to do by myself all weekend.
And when that happens, I often undertake complicated crafts or cooking endeavors. Therefore, I give you….BUTTERNUT SQUASH PIE!!!!!!!!
I made some last year for Thanksgiving, and it was pretty tasty, and since we had a butternut squash lying around, and as aforementioned, I am bored and a bit listless, it seemed a good idea. I even found a recipe in this ancient cookbook I obtained while rummaging through my grandmother’s old kitchen things. It’s from the 1950s and has all kinds of hilarious little rhymes and sexist/racist comments. It also has a recipe for cooking barracuda…..
The pie is still in the oven, and I really hope it turns out. In the meantime, I listened to an adorable song by Ingrid Michaelson on Pandora. You should listen to it too!
I just LOVE the chorus:
“Oh lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I”
